Two great looking vintage watches The dials are stunning and both watches can easily hold their own against similar by more expensive brands. Very Happy

I've not been around much for a bit either, lots going on at home and work, mostly ok.

I have sold off a few recently, as we've invested in a motorhome (!), but still have a smaller, more modest collection. Project looming is to convert my much loved CW Trident from quartz to automatic, but that's not an immediate thing. My Black Monster has also stopped, so I need to work out if it's cheaper to have it serviced, or just buy a new movement!! Shocked tongue

the CW conversion is worthwhile IMO as the quartz movement they use is a bit naff IMO so good luck

what Monster do you have? is it the 1st or 2nd edition, regardless you can do a movement transplant with an NH35 or 36 for abouit £35, you wont get a service for that and if its a 1st edition you will gain handwinding and hacking.
if its a 1st edition and its gaining wildly the balance spring has caught up in the balance cock, its a common issue with the 7s26, if thats they case put it face down in your hand and slap the caseback hard half a dozen times then time it for an hour if no different try again, its never failed with me Wink

Thanks Bruce! Sure enough, a few judicious whacks, and the Monster is ticking again. Hooray!

On the CW, the obvious movement would be a 2824, but that's pricey. Any of the clones any good? Would a Miyota fit? Any thoughts welcome!

Excellent news great to hear it is working again and did not need any serious work doing to it .

thing is though its not just the movement, you will need new hands and a new dial too, plus a movement spacer...clamps and screws
as for movements the seagull clones are as good and some say better, but as said the dial and hands for the quartz are not interchangeable sadly
it may be worth dropping a line to CW and see what is available, but i suspect when all added up that it would be cheaper to sell your quartz and buy a good 2nd hand auto

Oh well, maybe I will hang on to this one, and keep an eye out for an auto version.

Thanks Bruce!
