These two for today. Both birth year watches.

Trying to find a nice gold buckle for this lovely vintage strap. All the ones I've found so far have been too gaudy.

Will swap to this one later.

Do show it when it's completed Bruce.

I think I would like a change of bezel insert on mine. Something with just markers and no numbers.

Both lovely watches and I haven't come across the "Mercury" brand name before. I found this article which mentions Mercury watches which may be of interest....

http://seikoholics.yuku.com/sreply/388/TAKANO-Branded-Watches-plus-Mercury#.WJnQDevfWrU

....but as the font on the dial is different it could just be a coincidence and not pertinent to your watch. Very Happy

Thanks Bruce.
They're not cheap, about £38
It'll have to go on the back burner

Not the same Mercury, though it IS Japanese. It's a Seiko 7625-1990, and the Mercury bit is a mystery. I've only seen one other example, owned by a mate on WS. He's had his apart and inside it's 100% Seiko. Maybe a promotional item ?

That's a possibility, I came across this http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/gents-vintage-1950-60s-seiko-427612965 which suggests the same thing.

Looking at my spreadsheets, mine has an 820 movement. I have seen the Sony dial too.
